Expertise

I currently tutor 6 students for the SAT, ACT (both math and English), and several high school math topics - algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. I also can provide some assistance in physics and statistics, though these are not as much of specialties. The last set of students I tutored for standardized tests either raised their sub-section scores by 100 points or more on the SAT/subject tests, or wound up with section scores above 700, on the 800 scale.

When the SAT was scored on a 1600 point scale, I received 800 in math and 750 in English. I also had a perfect GPA from MIT and received honors at Harvard Business School and the London School of Economics. When I'm not tutoring, I am working on startup business projects involving data analysis and web marketing.

Teaching Methods

I take great care to learn a student's current strengths and weaknesses, learning style and activities they enjoy. All of this gets incorporated into tutoring session and examples worked on, making the time together valuable and even a bit fun.

I provide custom guideline documents, with notes on key approaches to key types of problems, as well as scores of extra example questions not provided in the typical prep books. We follow a timetable that helps them reach their improvement goals in time for standardized test dates or class exams. If the student has time, I also create custom extra practice sets and provide links to more examples they can refer to on their own.

About Me

I love to work with teens one-on-one, getting to know their learning style as well favorite activities, then bring that background into the learning process. I graduated with honors from MIT, the London School of Economics and Harvard Business School. I tutor after-school and evenings, while building a data/web startup during mid-day hours.

Scott is an excellent tutor. He works with our 17 year old twin boys on algebra, pre-calculus and SAT/ACT math and English. In spite of their differing learning styles, both felt they connected with Scott on a personal level, and that he has been a highly effective tutor. Scott is warm, personable and brilliant, and we are happy to give him our strongest recommendation.

Scott is working with my 11th grade daughter to prepare her for her upcoming SATs. He has been a great guide and tutor for her. Scott gives practice tests and then customizes a study plan for my daughter depending on her need. He is great at analyzing and understanding how to student approaches questions and then helps guide the student towards a better approach if needed. He provides detailed written and verbal instructions for her and is great about communicating strategies and suggestions to the parents and the student .He is very through in his approach and is encouraging and fun. My daughter works very well with him. He is also great at providing guidance about college selections. Scott also gives us information about which tests would suit the students strengths (ACT OR SAT). He is very receptive to new suggestions and very accomadating about the students needs. He has been a great asset to us during this whole process of test prep and college selections. I would highly recommend Scott as a tutor.
