I have taught all math subjects at all levels, from basic Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus and AP Statistics in my 14 years as a teacher. Additionally, I've taught several non-traditional courses such as Discrete Math and Finance Math. I've worked in a variety of settings, from large urban public schools to small independent schools, and am a former math department chairperson. I've also tutored privately in New York City for 16 years, working with students attending elite specialized high schools.
I adapt my tutoring lessons to the individual needs of the learner, ranging from targeted customized worksheets for skills reinforcement, to technology based dynamic tools to enhance understanding, and so on. Students are given a schedule of specific, actionable steps at the end of each lesson to continually improve their skills between sessions. Additionally, I will teach students techniques to help them best prepare for exams.
I am a high school math teacher with 14 years of experience in New York City and the surrounding suburbs. I have taught all of the traditional high school math courses from Algebra to Calculus, as well as Discrete Math, AP Statistics and Business Math. In 2001, I left a career in Finance to pursue teaching. I am a father of twins, and they just learned how to count all the way to 100.

Alex Freuman is a highly intelligent and caring teacher. My son met with Alex Freuman weekly for two years. The math sessions were something my son looked forward to each week. They helped challenge him and greatly advanced his skill level. the following year, my son was fortunate to take Mr. Freuman's Calculus course. As a parent, I have known several students who had previously struggled with math, but as they took Mr. Freuman's class, many felt math had become their favorite subject. He has a way of taking away the intimidation, and helps students discover the excitement of tackling challenging problems. Alex is captivating, and enjoys the challenge of bringing each of his students to a higher level of understanding. Anyone who has the opportunity to be taught by Alex Freuman would benefit from, and and greatly enjoy the experience. I highly recommend him as a math tutor.

You will not be disappointed with Alex as your math tutor. I am entirely grateful to say that I’ve had Alex as my math teacher for all four years of high school, from Geometry, to Algebra 2, to Pre-Calculus and Calculus (although his expertise does not stop there). He is incredibly patient and passionate about the subject, always excited to teach his lessons. He is also very engaging, which I find to be one of the key components to successfully learning math. Alex is one who appeals to all types of learners, using various platforms to aid his teaching. From relating math to iPhone games, to using various applications and websites for visual demonstrations, Alex’s teaching style is both engrossing and effective. Alex is extremely dedicated to his job, and will not “give up” upon a student’s difficulties. He will work closely with the student to tackle any misunderstandings and barriers, continuously trying new explanations until the student feels at ease with the content. He is very friendly, encouraging students to frequently ask questions, while constantly checking in and following up on previous work or areas of concern. Alex consistently went above and beyond, even offering to help me with SAT content outside of class time. There are no words to describe the wonderful influence he has had on creating a comfortable, fun, interesting and valuable learning environment for all of my classmates and me.
