Expertise

Throughout my education I took many biology and chemistry courses. In Chemisty I have studied everything from general chemistry to biochemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and environmental chemistry. I got A's in every biology class; Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biophotonics, Bioenergy. I have been working as a Science Tutor for over 3 years and have taught students from nearly every top public and private school in the city. I work mostly with high schoolers, but also tutor children as young as 5 through middle-aged adults looking to go back to school in the medical field.

Teaching Methods

I care about my students and want them to succeed through their own determination. I love teaching science and engage my students' curiosity in helping them to understand the content. I will utilize mnemonics, flash cards, outlines and pop quizzes to help ensure the material is understood. I work to motivate each student as an individual and to gain their truth and hard work through building an effective mentor-student relationship.

About Me

I am an experienced tutor and educator, and I would love to help you (or your child) understand science. I have tutored well over 200 students individually since I began my work in NYC 4.5 years ago. In addition to tutoring, I teach chemistry at a state university and SAT Biology/Chemistry test prep classes with private high school students. My strength is in motivating and connecting with students while simplifying difficult concepts. I strongly believe in good study habits and the power of mnemonic devices for remembering important information. I tune into my students so both of us enjoy working together and learning. I have helped students excel through better performance on homework assignments, class projects, exams and standardized tests.

I tutor a wide range of science and math:
Biology - Regents, SAT II, AP
Chemistry - Regents, SAT II, AP
Physics - Regents, SAT II
Algebra - Common Core, Regents
Geometry - Common Core, Regents

Ben is not only highly knowledgable in the sciences, he is extremely passionate about how he engages with his students. The time he takes to prepare his lessons, combined with his consideration his students' strengths and goals, enables him to be one of the best educators I've met over the years. I highly recommend Ben to any high school or college student preparing for science exams. You will have a tutor that takes his time, is flexible and truly cares about your progress.

I am a biology and chemistry teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Manhattan. Our school presents an enriched, college preparation curriculum. We have Sat II level science courses and many advanced placement college courses. We also present a range of student academic levels from very low skilled special education students to very advanced students. Benny Spott has helped tremendously in bridging this gap. He has saved countless students and is responsible for their passing the New York State regents exams in both biology and chemistry, and preparing students for their SAT-II and AP exams. Benny is extremely patient, kind, and is able to transition from a special needs student to an advanced student. I continue to receive rave reviews from students' parents. The parents witness the wonderful rapport that Benny has with their children. I am so lucky to be able to work with Benny and watch my students improve and progress. Benny has given my students an increased confidence. I find it amazing that Benny can easily tutor not only in biology and chemistry, but also physics. Recently, I met with a special education student's mother at our parent-teacher conference. She could not believe how much patience Benny has with her daughter who finds chemistry to be very daunting. I look forward to working with Benny for years to come. He is extremely intelligent, motivated, mature, and very kind. I highly recommend him for any endeavor! Benny has tutored my daughter for two years now and I highly recommend him. I have found that Benny is able to explain concepts and ideas in a way that the student can easily understand. He comes prepared to teach and often has visual tools that he employs during his lessons. All of this serves to make the experience more enjoyable and interesting for the student. Benny is also very passionate about his work and we have found that he is able to encourage and inspire my daughter as well. I personally have found that Benny has a very broad range of knowledge in numerous subjects and in my opinion is very well qualified as a tutor or instructor. In addition Benny makes himself available via phone or email for those times when my daughter has a question and needs his assistance.
