I have been a tutor for over four years now at two major private NYC boutique tutoring companies. This four years of tutoring has included preparation for the IB program and for the ACT, SAT, and ISEE/SSAT exams. I also tutor chemistry, biology, physics, math, and for SAT 2 and AP exams in those subject areas. Through all this work, I have developed a large base of knowledge and practice material to quickly and effectively improve exam scores or academic performance.
I have developed unique strategies and structured methodologies to help students grasp concepts and apply those concepts to new problems. I generally use the first one or two tutoring sessions to get a better understanding of a student's learning style, motivations, strengths, weaknesses and confidence level. I leverage this knowledge to tailor future sessions and focus our time on areas of need. If a test date is in mind, I structure our tutoring and schedule to target the deadline.
To help my students succeed, I have also developed material to create bespoke programs for my students. I created a three-tiered classification system for math and English questions from my exam inventory to quickly create relevant worksheets for my students. Additionally, I curate a large base of content to provide customized and focus practice sheets for my students.

I was raised in Massachusetts and went to Dover-Sherborn High School. Following High school, I went onto complete a BS in Engineering from Dartmouth College and a BA in Biochemistry from Colby College, where I was Magna Cum Laude and participated on the college ski team. I currently work as a technology consultant after pivoting from a role as an engineer at a biotech company.

Brett was a tutor to our high school junior in preparation for the SAT2 in Chemistry. My child felt the tutoring was extremely helpful and Brett displayed nothing but exceptional professionalism.

Brett tutored my daughter for the SAT over the course of several months in early 2015. His personality and teaching style were spot-on for my daughter as he was able to explain things to her in a patient and relevant manner. Brett was also incredibly helpful in providing customized homework assignments for her. He was also always available to answer her questions via text or email, which was a nice value add. My daughter was able to hit the number she wanted for the SAT and get into a great college. We both highly recommend Brett!

My son was having a hard time with his Algebra and Chemistry classes during 10th grade. Brett tutored him once a week. Brett was very caring and responsible. He took his work very seriously. Before the first lesson, Brett asked for the class curriculum and book and made sure he would teach my son exactly what he needed. Brett was knowledgeable on the subject, reliable, always on time and easy to talk to.
