Expertise

I came into tutoring the same way most do - as a poor grad student looking for a way to feed myself. In the summer of 2006, the Compass Education Group, a fantastic tutoring company in California (http://www.compassprep.com/) recruited me as one of their Math SAT tutors and subsequently trained me in the finer art of test prep tutoring. I parlayed this experience into several other tutoring opportunities, including one as a one-on-one math teacher at the School for Independent learners, an accredited alternative learning high school, where I taught everything from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus. When I moved back to the East Coast in the summer of 2009, I struck out on my own as an independent test prep tutor and I haven't looked back since.

Teaching Methods

I take a data-driven approach to test prep to deliver lessons tailored to the unique strengths and weaknesses of my students. As an independent tutor, I have the freedom to go with what works for each individual rather than rigidly subscribing a one-size-fits-all test prep curriculum. More importantly, I don't teach at my students - I work with them. My sessions are collaborative, adaptive, and designed to maximize each student's score.

With each passing year, more and more businesses, schools, and, yes, tutors are turning to collaborative internet technology to efficiently and conveniently connect and collaborate all over the world. I leverage this technology to make online tutoring a central pillar in my own practice.

It's amazing how natural and effective online tutoring is. Skype video calling bridges the gap between computer screen and computer screen to deliver a seamless and collaborative experience between me and my students that makes you feel as if you're sitting in the same room. Online whiteboards, along with Bamboo tablet, make it easy to troubleshoot problems and review concepts. And, of course, this can all be done from the comfort of your own home on a schedule that meets your needs.

About Me

My name is Jeremy Tillman and I offer elite online tutoring services to students around the world. I am a graduate of Princeton and Stanford Universities and a talented tutor with 7 years experience working with students all over the world. I have tutored a myriad of academic subjects, but I specialize in standardized test prep for the SAT, PSAT, and ACT.

I bring tutoring into the 21st century by using cutting-edge online collaboration technology to deliver a proven test prep methodology to students all over the world in the comfort of their own homes. I have worked with students from top public and private schools across the United States and even across the globe.

In my professional life outside of tutoring, I am a recovering engineer who cast aside his TI-86 to become an entrepreneur, digital strategist, and product manager. I am currently the Director of Product at an internet startup called Ghostery. Additionally, as a former D1 NCAA swimmer, I can often be found swimming laps at my local aquatic dungeon (pool). Beyond test prep tutoring, I work hard to mentor my students in life skills that I have gained as both a professional and an athlete.

Our daughter directed her own college planning and admission process and she wanted a "high end" tutor that would push her and not waste any time. Like many students, she was already over extended in AP classes, varsity and club sports, science research projects, etc. and now had to reluctantly add test prep to her plate. She discovered Jeremy via a personal referral and quickly found his mix of physical in-person and Skype meetings to be ideal. They established a productive (and very cost effective) rhythm of at-home prep / practice testing followed by tutor-run review / explanation sessions. I watched as each week my daughter would focus on the home practice test scoring results and Jeremy would deftly take her to more advanced topics and test taking techniques. It was a methodical results focused approach, and I believe this was a big factor in reducing the stress level felt by my daughter. I would periodically meet with Jeremy at the tail-end of a Skype session for a review of progress made and steps remaining. He was both quantitative and personally insightful. My daughter took the SAT three times with a material increase in scores. She went into the admissions process with confidence and was accepted by the 4 schools she applied early decision including her top choice, Columbia. I would strongly recommend using Jeremy.

My son was recently tutored by Jeremy for his SAT testing. To best accommodate my son's hectic schedule, Jeremy was able to orchestrate a series of online sessions. His SAT scores greatly improved from pre- to post-testing. He was able to capture my son's attention and made learning fun. From my end, Jeremy regularly provided me with comprehensive reports of my son's progress. I had a good understanding of his strength and weakness along with a plan on how to get the best scores. Jeremy is exceptionally bright. I will strongly recommend his services as I am confident that he will provide results.
