I have tutored professionally for seven years and have taught for over fifteen years. Originally from Indiana, I earned my Ph.D. in music history from Yale University, where I wrote my dissertation about eighteenth-century aesthetics. As an undergraduate, I studied at Indiana University and graduated with degrees in music and in history (summa cum laude). I taught violin during my undergraduate years, thereby discovering my love for teaching. Ultimately, I became a tutor because I see working one-on-one with students as the best way to help them achieve their potentials.
As a high school junior, I scored a then-perfect 1600 (800 verbal, 800 math) on the SAT; I also received 5s on numerous AP exams and was designated an AP National Scholar. When applying to graduate school, I scored in the 98th percentile on the verbal section of the GRE, and perfect scores on the math and writing sections.
In addition to tutoring, I have taught college courses at Columbia and NYU. In my tutoring, I draw upon my own experiences in the college classroom in order to help my students develop the reading, writing, and reasoning skills that they will need in order to succeed in college.
I tutor standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT, as well as many AP exams. Additionally, I tutor students in numerous academic subjects, including English and history. One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to help students to develop their writing skills, whether for school papers or college admissions essays. Passionate about helping my students excel in their schoolwork and on standardized tests, I enjoy mentoring them throughout their studies and in the college admissions process. Because I know how to help students learn the skills they need in order to succeed on standardized tests, my students experience significant score gains.
I am a professional tutor in the NYC area who specializes in standardized test prep (particularly SAT/ACT) and reading/writing/math skill development and enrichment.

My son came to Leanne with only a few weeks to prepare for his next ACT. Leanne immediately identified the areas where my son needed the most help and put together a plan that was manageable. I am happy to say that his ACT score went up 3 points to a 31 and he couldn't have done it without Leanne's help.

Leanne is a very good tutor. She helped my son a lot with reading comprehension and writing parts of the standard and AP tests. She suggested many helpful strategies and hints; she was efficient, patient and a pleasure to work with. After several sessions he was able to get a 35 on ACT test, a 5 in AP History and finally get accepted to one of the most prestigious universities in a country. I would definitely recommend her as a tutor!

Leanne Dodge tutored our daughter to prepare her for the Literature SAT II. They only met a few times but Leanne was extremely helpful to our daughter. During those few sessions Leanne prepared her for the SAT II and provided her with some valuable college counseling. Our daughter had visited Harvard and liked it a lot but was leaning against applying there because of the large classes. Leanne pointed out to her that she was not a shy kid and had never had any problems speaking up so that even though large classes might be an issue for some kids, it likely wouldn't be for her. In sum, what our daughter got from Leanne was not only the guidance she needed to achieve the requisite score to be admitted to her first choice college but also the wisdom to recognize that it was her first choice. I recommend her without reservation.

Leanne was a wonderful tutor who was engaged, patient and motivational. She was attuned to my son's emotional well being and helped guide him during a stressful time. Thanks to Leanne, my son did exceeding well on the SAT's, and I'm pleased to say that he is attending Columbia University.
