Expertise

I've been tutoring for 5 years. I scored a 34 out of 36 on the ACT when I took it and regularly take practice tests as soon as they are released. I also got a 2300 on my SAT (back when it was out of 2400) and regularly take those practice tests as well.
I have been trained by two tutoring companies - Ivy Global and A List. Both have had me take practice tests and give practice lessons.
I've worked with students from age 6 to 17 years old. I've worked with kids in accelerated courses and students with learning disabilities.
Depending on how consistently I see my students and how much effort they're willing to put into their homework, they will steadily improve. It will take 3-6 months to see significant improvement, but that's because they're learning new skills and it takes time (just as it takes to learn an instrument).
I continue to improve my ability to teach these subjects by doing practice problems on my own time. I also make sure to take notes during each session and review notes after the session and before the next session so that I can make any necessary changes. I am very perceptive so I will usually make adjustments in the moment to fit my student's needs.

Teaching Methods

I use Barron's books for my subjects and the official study guides for the ACT and SAT. I use real old tests for the ACT/SAT because the books are merely simulations.
My lessons go like this: We talk about how the week went, how the homework went, any concerns that have come up since I've last seen my student. We then review the homework, making sure to correct any errors and talk through any problems. If there are more issues, I will pull another worksheet to keep reviewing the concept until it is solid. Then we will work on the topic for the day. After we have had the lesson on the topic of the day, we will do applicable practice problems. I will then assign homework for next time and schedule the next lesson.
Homework usually involves reading and annotating articles, worksheets for particular concepts, and timed practice tests.
These worksheets are effective because they solidify the concepts and strategies that we have gone over in our sessions.

About Me

I have been a professional tutor for the past 5 years. My specialties are the ACT/SAT (I scored in the 99th percentile for these), ISEE, and SSAT. I get results: just recently I had another student take her ACT composite score from 22 to 33. My average points increase for the ACT is 4-6 points (composite! which is huge) and SAT/SSAT is 250. I enjoy working with kids and find that they connect well to my warm, engaging, and energetic personality. I love being a mentor and I am overjoyed when I see them succeed!

I am a graduate of Columbia University (4 semesters Dean's List and a GPA of 3.71) with a BA in psychology, and a professional actress who has appeared on Broadway, television and film.

Unlike most recent college graduates, I have worked in highly stressful environments since I was 10 years old. I understand the pressure and responsibility of completing tasks efficiently and capably. My self-determination and focus enabled me to attain a 4.3 GPA in high school while often performing eight shows a week. I earned two 5s and a 4 on my APs and a 34 on my ACT while rehearsing for a Broadway show. At Columbia, I was on the Dean's List multiple semesters while performing as a lead role in an Off-Broadway musical (I was additionally starring in a workshop of a new musical for a month as well). I graduated with a 3.7 cumulative GPA.

I know that my aptitude, communication skills, and positive attitude will help your child succeed!
