I graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor's in Math and Economics. Currently, I am an 8th grade Geometry teacher in an urban public school district in New Jersey, and I love it. I became a middle school math teacher after transitioning from a career in management consulting. I have also tutored students in Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus both one-on-one and in small groups for the past three years.
I have found that by using a developmental approach to teaching math and by showing why math patterns work, my students experience the most growth.
All of my tutoring courses are taught through a developmental approach. I first work with students to build conceptual understanding. Then I help students work through practice problems to build fluency. This method helps math concepts "stick" as students understand why they are doing each step to solve a problem. Through this approach I have seen my students build confidence in their math thinking which leads them to experience academic growth.
Hi! My name is Sabine Louis and I am originally from Rockland County, NY. I graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor's in Economics and Math in 2011. Upon graduating, I moved to Virginia where I worked as a management consultant for government clients for two years. After realizing that my true passion is working with young adults and helping them realize their full potential, I moved back to the tri-state area to pursue a career in teaching. I love math and I am fascinated by social psychology. I also enjoy running long distance and participated in my first half-marathon in 2013.

Sabine was an excellent tutor. I loved having her help every week with homework and preparing for tests in my TrigCalc class, as well as SAT prep work. She was great at answering my questions and helping me come to my own conclusions. I highly recommend her as a tutor and will most likely continue to study with her myself this school year.

Sabine is a wonderful math tutor, and we are so grateful to have her. We have two middle-school students several years ahead in math but the school requires they maintain an A average or they will be dropped from the class. That was very stressful to our kids. We hired Sabine to come every Monday to work with both kids -- one in geometry and one in algebra. Sabine is very patient, calm and methodical. She would sit at the dining room table and work through problems with the kids. My daughter generally had an agenda of what she needed help on. My son needed less help and would come and ask questions when he needed to. Sometimes I would ask Sabine just to check in with him -- to make sure he was as solid as he thought. Sabine was available for extra sessions when we needed her before tests and the final exam. Both kids finished with As in their respective math classes. Sabine is reliable, intelligent, and does a good job explaining the math to the kids. We plan ton continue using Sabine through high school math for our kids.

Sabine became my tutor for my Trig-Calc HH class when I started to struggle in the class. Sabine was very knowledgable with the topics that I struggled with and needed to learn more in-depth. She was very good at explaining how to do specific topics and really helped me improve my grade and ability in the class. Sabine was a great tutor and I would definitely recommend her for anyone struggling or who needs help in math.

I have to say that I had a very positive experience with Sabine Louis. I started struggling in my pre- calc honors course during the second marking period last year and decided to get some tutoring. I've used the Essex County Tutoring before and always had a very positive experience. Sabine was extremely helpful in this subject and was flexible with her schedule, which was extremely important for me. My grades and participation in my math class had boosted up dramatically and I would surely recommend her to others. She was very patiant with me and had no problem staying a bit longer then planned. I would defiantly have Sabine tutor me again if needed so in the near future.
