Expertise

I have been teaching for 20 years and have worked for the College Board for since 2009 grading AP Chemistry Exams. I have also written multiple choice questions for the exam. I have worked with students from all over the world and from all walks of life. My students typically get 4's and 5's on the exam and I can help you get there too. I am also a consultant for the College Board, helping other teachers more effectively teach AP Chemistry.

Teaching Methods

Tutoring sessions are based on the needs of each student. I determine where you are in the process and help you get to where you want/need to be. I understand the scope and sequence of the AP Chemistry exam and can give you help tips and techniques for the test. As such I will assign past AP questions and coach you through the solutions. I will teach you how to construct a strong answer to both written response and calculation based questions.

Mr. Pulliam taught me Regular Chemistry in my sophomore year and AP Chemistry in my junior year. He puts good emphasis on parts that are important in the AP exam, great if you're preparing to take the AP exams. He explains concepts thoroughly and gives many practices on questions. He's very demanding and has high expectations, but all turn out to be worth the work!

Mr. Pulliam is a very challenging yet encouraging teacher. His explanations and analogies of chemistry concepts are clear, and he is very experienced with the AP Chemistry exam. He also good at identifying a student's weakness in understanding certain concepts. After taking his classes, I have developed serious interest in chemistry and plan to pursue it in college.

Relationship: Educator

Mr Pulliam was my Chemistry for my sophomore year at The Stony Brook School, and he gave me quite the ride. He managed to pack all the material of the chem course into a tight time frame, and made everything very accessible. That being said, his course was hard by nature, however he made help available as needed and created a positive environment. Up until the point where I took Mr. Pulliam's class, I never had felt thoroughly challenged in school, until my 2nd semester grade dropped in his class due to me not expecting a difficulty spike. Mr. Pulliam then not only was willing to teach and aid me in learning all the material, but also at the same time instilled values of hard work into me which remain to this day.
